
Program Overview
Certified Medication Technician (CMT)
The Certified Medication Technician (CMT) administers prescribed medications to residents, verifies the identity of residents receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records. They maintain related medical records, take vital signs and observe residents to detect response to medications. In addition, Certified Medication Technicians (CMTs) report to a registered nurse case manager/delegating nurse.
Objective of the Program
The objective of the Certified Medication Technician (CMT) training program is to prepare caregivers working in assisted-living facilities, adult daycare centers, detention centers, school health programs, treatment centers, home health agencies, group homes, and private homes to administer medications under the direction and supervision of the agency’s registered nurse case manager/delegating nurse. This training program is 20 hours as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
Instructional Methods
Method of instruction: This course is taught through a series of classroom lectures, hands-on lab training, out of class homework, class assignments, and clinical instruction.
